What is MyFlickr?

MyFlickr is a web application that can give you your own branded photo portfolio based on your photos in your Flickr account.

You can customize your portfolio with CSS, select a flash based viewer and choose what photos to show.

Nice! -How do I start?

All you need is a Flickr account with some photos.

  1. Enter a desired URL ending with .myflickr.org in your browser, (e.g. http://john.myflickr.org/ or http://myparty.myflickr.org/)

  2. If your URL is free, you can "claim" the URL by authenticating with Flickr,

  3. Select what Photo Sets to show on your new page,

  4. DONE!

You have now "claimed" a page and set up an authorization for MyFlickr to your Flickr account. MyFlickr does not get your password, and you can delete the MyFlickr account anytime you want from your Flickr home page.

What's next?

Google Analytics

MyFlickr provides excellent support for analyzing your traffic with Google Analytics. You can add your own Google Analytics Tracker Id to your photo site to get the same usage statistics as the host.

Custom CSS

You can add custom CSS to your sites to customize your site entirelly.

Custom HTML

You can add any custom HTML to a few parts of your site. You can for example add Youtube videos to your front page.

Facebook integration (underway)

You can let your visitors add a Facebook Application to their profile that show thumbnails of a few of your photos.

OK - But how does it work?

Well, there's a Java application running at s1.hosta.myflickr.org which listens to all incoming Web requests. Whenever a request for an unknown server name is made, the application answers with a registration form. If you use the form to authenticate with Flickr, the application will save the authentication tokens for that URL. From now on, you have to reauthenticate in the same way with Flickr if you want to change anything on your site.
